Karthigai Deepam is a traditional Tamil festival of lights celebrated primarily in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Mythological origins
According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Shiva manifested as an infinite column of fire to settle a dispute between Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma over supremacy. The blazing Jyothi (flame) on Thiruvannamalai hill commemorates this divine event. Another legend links the day to Lord Muruga’s unification from six forms into one, blessed by Goddess Parvati, celebrated as his birth.
